The Cannon County Commission moved to fill the District 2 vacancy and nominated Marty Williams after a public recommendation from James Atkins.

At the meeting James Atkins described his familiarity with the late Karen (a long-time dispatcher and budget committee member) and said he was withdrawing his own name, adding: "I respectfully and wholeheartedly recommend Marty Williams for the position of second district commissioner." The commission opened nominations, a motion to nominate Williams was seconded, and the chair announced the motion carried.

The commission read a letter of interest from Williams, who was not in the chamber; the letter thanked the board for considering him and indicated he would be honored to represent the Galloway community and serve with integrity if appointed. Commissioners encouraged other potential candidates to file petitions if they wished to contest the appointment.

Next steps: With the nomination carried by voice vote the board confirmed the appointment and noted customary follow-up and oath procedures would occur to seat the new commissioner.
