The Amherst County Service Authority voted Jan. 6 to authorize its executive director to begin seeking developable sites for a proposed operations center following a facilities needs study completed Dec. 11 by Virginia A and E (contracted with Hurt & Profit). The study recommends approximately 12,000 square feet of building space on roughly 3 acres to support current and future operations.
Board discussion focused on keeping the facility near Madison Heights to centralize services and make the building accessible to customers and field crews. Members emphasized improving field crew working conditions (including showers and adequate sewage) and preserving convenient customer access. The board approved a motion authorizing staff to locate suitable sites and return recommendations for board approval.
