Fremont County approves BLM right-of-way for small new access section to Heritage Trail

The Fremont County Commission on Jan. 6 approved a Bureau of Land Management right-of-way grant (serial WIWI106718619) to provide access for the Heritage Trail (a rails-to-trails project).
County staff described the grant as covering roughly a quarter-mile of existing access road plus creation of a new 250-foot section approximately 25 feet wide to reach the south side of the Poison Creek Bridge. The staff presentation noted stipulations in the BLM permit: no construction before July/August and a stop date around Nov. 15, plus reclamation obligations following use.
Commission discussion focused on the limited new construction (staff noted 'it's only 250 feet of new construction') and whether any improvements to the existing track would be required (staff said the existing track is heavily used and construction on it was not expected). The commission moved and seconded to approve the right-of-way access application; the motion passed by voice vote.
The approved access is intended to provide trail connectivity to the Heritage Trail route. Staff and commissioners asked the BLM and local stakeholders to ensure reclamation and seasonal constraints are observed during construction.
