Resident urges Jonesboro to restrict left turns at Elmhurst and Parker Road, citing safety data

Patty Latt (4108 Forest Hill Road) told the council that a traffic study conducted Sept. 18 recorded 295 left turns from Elmhurst onto Parker Road over a 13-hour period (an average of roughly 22 per hour and a peak hour count of 35 left turns). Latt said the Arkansas Department of Transportation (RDOT) had told her Elmhurst and the nearby Harrisburg approach were too close to the intersection and that the previous no-left-turn sign on Parker had been removed.
Latt said heavy delivery trucks from nearby businesses (including Walmart) are using the approach and she feared a crash as development in the area continues. She urged the city to review the intersection and consider restoring restrictions or making Elmhurst a right-hand-turn-only connection before additional storage units and other development increase traffic volumes.
