During the Nov. 4, 2025 meeting of the Jonesboro Public Works Committee, members sought clarity about which city departments are responsible for public works matters after the prior Public Services committee was dissolved.
Speaker 2 asked the chair whether items that previously went to finance or public services should now be heard by this committee, noting confusion about whether programs such as JETS belong on this agenda. Speaker 3 asked what the intent had been when public services was dissolved and how responsibilities were redistributed.
Chair (Speaker 1) replied that engineering, sanitation and the street department are the primary departments that address public works matters and said that some functions had been split between other committees (public safety and finance) following the dissolution of public services. Speaker 1 asked staff member April to send an email breaking down which departments are assigned to which committee; staff agreed to do so.
No formal action was recorded on this topic and no public comments were made. The committee’s next step on this topic is informational: staff will circulate the requested departmental breakdown by email.
