The Jonesboro Public Safety Committee voted to forward three property-condemnation resolutions and an application for FY2026 bulletproof vest grant to the full City Council; staff said the condemnations respond to safety hazards documented by inspectors and the fire marshal.
The Jonesboro Public Safety Committee voted Thursday to forward three resolutions that would authorize condemnation proceedings for city properties and to forward an application for the FY2026 bulletproof vest grant to the full City Council.
Miss Carroll, a city staff member who described the case before the committee, said inspectors and the fire marshal had found the property at 233 South Fisher Street to be a safety hazard and recommended removal. "It is a property that's been deemed dangerous...We're taking the building down," she said, explaining that notices and related reports were attached to the resolution.
The committee also voted to forward Resolution 25,168 to condemn property at 3806 School Street (parcel 0114427216500) and Resolution 25,169 to condemn property at 2410 West Matthews Avenue (parcel 0114314301900). For each resolution a committee member moved to forward the item to the full council, a second was recorded, and the motion carried by voice vote.
Separately, the committee forwarded Resolution 25,199, authorizing the Grants and Community Development Department to apply for the FY2026 bulletproof vest grant. Committee members recorded no questions for administration and the motion to forward the grant application carried.
The items will next appear on the full City Council agenda for consideration.
