Northwest Focal Point board approves three Older Americans Act agreements; director reports funding shortfall and holiday programs

Two related measures were also approved: Resolution 2b, a memorandum of understanding with the South Florida Institute on Aging to provide volunteers for the Senior Companion Program volunteer station; and Resolution 2c, an OAA master contract setting general terms and conditions between the council and the district. All three resolutions were moved, seconded, and approved by roll-call votes during the meeting.

In her executive director report, Terry Lieberman, project director of the Northwest Focal Point Senior Center, thanked staff and volunteers and previewed upcoming events, including a choir performance on Dec. 9, a bus tour to Trademan's Park—antasy of Lights on Dec. 11, the Holiday Race and Ugly Sweater Day on Dec. 15, Big Bingo on Dec. 26, and a noon New Year celebration on Dec. 31. Lieberman told the board the center "actually exceeded the amount of funding that the area agency gave us for this year," and said she has requested additional OAA funds; the transcript indicates some additional caregiver (OA3e) funds were granted while a request for more general OA3b funding remains pending.
Board members used the meeting's comment period to commend staff and programming; several members thanked the center for community outreach and wished staff a happy Thanksgiving. The meeting adjourned after brief closing remarks.
The board did not take separate votes on budget reallocation, nor did staff present a detailed funding timeline or contingency plan for the outstanding OA3b request during this session; Lieberman said the additional funding request is under consideration.
