Margate commission approves bond authorization, equipment purchase and fire staffing additions

At the Nov. 25 meeting the City Commission approved multiple fiscal and operational items: a resolution authorizing up to $60 million in water and wastewater improvement revenue bonds; a waiver of bidding for a Trimble X9 forensic laser-scanning system to be purchased from a Federal Law Enforcement Trust Fund account not to exceed $75,000; and a staffing authorization for the fire department to add one full-time deputy fire chief and three assistant fire chiefs along with the corresponding budget amendment.
City staff said the bond authorization is part of the wastewater project already approved by voters and would delegate implementation details to the city manager and finance staff. On the Trimble purchase, staff noted the funds come from law-enforcement trust funds (forfeiture proceeds) and are not city-tax dollars. Commissioners voted in favor of all measures on roll call.
The staffing additions were described as non-bargaining positions to support department operations and will be included as a budget amendment for fiscal 2026.
