Margate commission names Antonio Arcerio mayor and Anthony Casciano vice mayor

The City Commission of Margate, Florida, confirmed Antonio Arcerio as mayor and Anthony Casciano as vice mayor during its Nov. 25 meeting, with both appointments effective at adjournment.
The commission read resolutions confirming the appointments and approved each by roll-call vote. The votes were unanimous. City Attorney David read the titles of both resolutions before each roll-call.
Residents used the public-comment period to urge different outcomes. Jonathan Krawcheck said he feared a return to curtailed public access if Antonio Arcerio became mayor again, referencing past actions to limit Zoom public comments. Donna Fellows and several other residents urged the commission to give Commissioner Joanne Simone an elevated role, saying she has consistently “been for the residents.”
Mayor Arlene Schwartz, who presided over the meeting, thanked staff and residents in brief remarks before the vote. “Margate is moving forward responsibly, proudly, and together,” she said earlier in the meeting while summarizing the year’s accomplishments.
The appointments take effect immediately upon adjournment of the Nov. 25 meeting. The action replaces the outgoing mayor and vice mayor who were recognized earlier in the meeting for their service from November 2024 to November 2025.
