The North Kingstown Town Council approved a resolution on Dec. 15 awarding construction-management preconstruction services for the new Wickford Middle School from a previously authorized $20,000,000 appropriation. Council members voted after the school committee and the building advisory committee recommended the same contractor following an interview process.

A council member moved to approve a resolution "making an award for construction management preconstruction services for the new Wickford Middle School project from prior appropriation of $20,000,000 for construction improvement, renovation, demolition, remediation, furnishing, equipping, and other capital improvements of school facilities." The motion was seconded and the chair called for voice vote; councilors responded in the affirmative and the motion carried.

Town staff said the award implements a prior appropriation and does not represent a new borrowing request. The school committee had voted earlier to approve the award. The council's action clears the way for the next steps in the project's procurement and design timeline.
