County staff flag potential FY26 budget shortfall tied to bargaining‑unit pay increases

Nye County management told commissioners on Nov. 18 they are investigating a probable omission in the fiscal‑year 2026 budget: several recently renegotiated collective‑bargaining agreements (CBAs) appear not to have been fully incorporated into budgeted wages and benefits.
County staff said the issue likely affects bargaining units including the NCLA, NCMEA and NCSA and that they are re‑creating the FY26 budget to include contractually required cost‑of‑living and CPI adjustments. "What it's looking like at first glance is that wages and benefits did not capture the contractual obligations in the CBAs for a few of the different bargaining units," staff told the board, and they expect to return with options within two to three weeks.
Commissioners requested clarity on whether the discrepancy is limited to county general‑fund labor items or extends to other funds and whether the town budget is similarly affected. Management said the town budget has not shown the same issue so far.
Next steps: staff will quantify the shortfall and bring corrective options (budget amendments, transfers, contingency use) to the board for consideration.
