Licensing: The Board approved a beer-and-wine liquor license for Jinsun LLC dba Sushi Yong (applicant Yong Wook Lee) after public comment in support; the motion carried by voice vote.
Capital project: The Board approved Change Order No. 2 for Top Ranked Builders on the Kellogg Fire Station No. 3 project, authorizing $88,581.20 to upgrade the electrical switch panel from 600 to 800 amps for code compliance. Commissioners noted the project will be funded from PSST (fire department funds) and the comptroller confirmed available cash in the fund is just over $2.2 million. Vote recorded as 5-0.
Grants: Commissioners accepted FY2025 notices of subaward amendments from the Aging and Disability Services Division for congregate meals ($87,968) and home-delivered meals ($65,373.50), and accepted a Nevada Office of Emergency Management Emergency Preparedness Working Group grant ($267,913.11) for emergency-management equipment, supplies and training. Board discussion acknowledged government-shutdown reimbursement risk but staff advised continuation of reporting and reimbursement requests.
Other actions: The Board adopted a resolution directing the county assessor to prepare the 2026-2027 secured tax assessment roll and mailing list; appointed Michael Foley as a temporary justice of the peace under NRS 4.34 for up to 30 days; and authorized transfer of two seized properties to Esmeralda County (seized in 2008) to remove remediation liability from Nye County.
Park hours: The Board approved a temporary overnight closure of Pedrick (Petrified) Park between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., extended by 90 days after debate over enforcement and impacts to unsheltered people; the motion carried 5-0.
Elections: The Board approved the clerk's request to use ballot envelopes purchased by the Secretary of State under AB 192 for 2026 and 2027 elections and to notify the Secretary of State in writing by Nov. 7, 2025.
