Rules Committee recommends reappointment to Immigrant Rights Commission

The Rules Committee on Oct. 27 recommended reappointing an incumbent to Seat 1 of the Immigrant Rights Commission for a term ending June 6, 2026, forwarding the committee report to the full Board.
Two applicants addressed the committee. The first applicant, who identified herself in testimony as Jesse Reese, described five years of service with the Immigrant Rights Commission, her work with vulnerable populations including people experiencing homelessness, and her perspective as a Latina transgender immigrant. The second applicant, Sameem Shaikh, described community organizing experience, work with refuge and immigrant communities and academic study of migration issues.
Sarah Souza, chair of the Immigrant Rights Commission, spoke in support of Jesse Reese’s reappointment, saying the transgender community and immigrant voices must remain represented on the commission.
President Mandelmann moved to recommend Jesse for Seat 1 as a committee report; the motion passed without objection. The recommendation will be considered by the full Board.
