Rules Committee forwards Judy Lee's nomination to Building Inspection Commission

Chair Supervisor Shamann Walton opened the committee and called Item 1, the nomination of Judy Lee to the Department of Building Inspection Commission, a position with a term through July 1, 2027. Judy Lee told the committee she is a native San Franciscan and longtime tenant whose priorities ‘‘will be threefold: first, to strengthen transparency and accountability; second, to advance equity and inclusion; and third, to foster collaboration’’ among DBI and other city departments.
President Mandelmann, who nominated Lee, described her record with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and city programs and urged colleagues to approve the appointment. Public commenters also spoke in favor: Randy Shaw of the Tenderloin Housing Clinic told the committee the Department of Building Inspection ‘‘is the agency that tenants most rely on’’ and asked supervisors to confirm Lee as an ally for tenants.
Chair Walton moved to amend the committee report so it would recommend approval (replacing a prior ‘rejecting’ notation) and forward the nomination to the full Board of Supervisors. The clerk recorded aye votes from Vice Chair Supervisor Cheryl, Member Madelmann and Chair Walton. The motion passed without objection and the committee agreed to send the nomination to the Board with a positive recommendation.
Next steps: the committee report will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for final consideration on the scheduled Board agenda.
