Director Tyrone Juh used his director's report to highlight department outreach and program successes while cautioning that budget conversations are ongoing.
Juh said the department hosted delegations from other U.S. cities and South Korea, supported a week of events for the C40 Cities Food Waste and Procurement Network and celebrated a local milestone at the SF Produce Market where partners marked the 10 millionth pound of food recovered.
He also noted workforce development and training efforts: heat-pump water-heater training for local contractors and a recent training that drew 138 public health staff from 29 counties. Juh described a department-wide sustainability challenge and recognized the climate team for winning internal competition.
On the budget, Juh said internal conversations with the mayor's budget office are continuing but he had "no positive or concrete news to present" and that discussions are accelerating.
Commissioners had no substantive action on the budget item at the meeting; staff said they would continue to brief the commission as conversations proceed.
