Hawaii County committee forwards nomination of Maile L. Maloye to Hamakua CDP action committee

The Hawaii County Committee on Government Operations and External Affairs voted to forward a favorable recommendation for Maile L. Maloye’s nomination to the Hamakua Community Development Plan Action Committee, Acting Chair James Eustace said at the committee’s morning meeting in Kona.
Michael Alameda, executive assistant in the Office of the Mayor, introduced the nomination (Communication 616) and said that, if confirmed by full council, Maloye’s term would expire on Dec. 31, 2027. Alameda summarized Maloye’s background, saying she was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, has Native Hawaiian family ties, served with AmeriCorps, earned an associate degree from Hawaii Community College and bachelor’s degrees in administration of justice and political science from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo, and is active in the Association of Hawaiian Civic Clubs and Hui Aloha ʻĀina. "We believe Ms. Maloye will add immediate impact to the Hamakua Community Development Plan Action Committee," Alameda said.
The nominee spoke briefly, saying she was "deeply humbled and grateful" to Mayor Tino Alameda and to her family, described prior AmeriCorps service and community involvement, and expressed willingness to serve on the Hamakua CDP action committee.
Council Member Kimball said she had recently met Maloye and called her a fresh voice who would add important perspective; Council Member Galimba also thanked the nominee for stepping forward and noted action committees are an important venue for community engagement.
Council Member Onishi moved to forward the nomination to full council with a favorable recommendation; Council Member Inaba seconded the motion. The clerk announced the vote as eight in favor with one member (recorded in the transcript as "Mister Connelly Kleinfelder") absent. The committee then adjourned at 9:09 a.m.
The vote forwarded Communication 616 to the full Hawaii County Council; the full council will consider confirmation at a subsequent meeting.
