Joan Iacono, speaking for Venice Thrives, praised efforts to expand beach parking but said the plan does not replace spaces lost at Caspersen and asked whether a shuttle from community parking areas had been considered to ease access until beaches reopen. She also urged coordinated city‑county maintenance for Curry Creek, Flamingo Ditch and Deertown Gully to avoid interagency confusion.
Kristen Hoffschmidt, leader of Friends of Deertown Gully, congratulated the county's Rain Check program and encouraged a Venice counterpart to incentivize rain gardens, bioswales and other green infrastructure; she stressed that stormwater and water quality "do not respect municipal boundaries."
Debbie Garricki, a Venice citizen and Venice Theater board member, urged more urgency on homelessness responses, describing people living in vehicles and urging stronger collective support that could include churches and nonprofits.
Speakers received brief replies of thanks from board members and were thanked for coming to the joint meeting.
