Fire Chief Rob Murphy presented certificates to graduates of the Central Coast Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program during the Nov. 17 Newport City Council meeting, describing the nine‑week training that covered disaster preparedness, fire safety, basic medical operations, light and urban search and rescue, and a final simulated exercise.
Murphy announced the next CERT training session will run Mondays from March 2 through April 27, 2026, 6–8 p.m. at the main Newport Fire Station and called for community members to sign up.
