The Carmel Historic Preservation Commission voted to retain Indiana Landmarks as its staff organization for 2026 at the same annual fee cited in staff materials.

Speaker 6 asked the commission to take a formal vote to renew the contract for Indiana Landmarks for 2026; Speaker 5 moved the motion and Speaker 8 seconded. The motion carried by voice vote with ayes recorded.

Separately, staff described an administrative proposal to shift the commission’s meeting location to the Caucus Room and possibly move its meeting night to reduce building staffing costs. Commissioners noted the tradeoffs: the Caucus Room can be audio-recorded and its recordings posted to the city website but it cannot be livestreamed, reducing live visibility for residents. Staff said they would follow up by email with the commission once the administration finalizes the schedule and recording approach.

Alex (staff) also said the city recently changed the commissions page URL and that the Historic Preservation Commission is not currently included in a drop-down list of boards and commissions on the agendas-and-minutes page; staff will ask the city to restore the commission’s listing so past agendas and minutes are easier to find.

Next steps: the Indiana Landmarks contract stands for 2026; staff will follow up with commissioners on final meeting-room decisions and work with the city to restore website links to agendas and minutes.
