The Nottoway County Board of Supervisors opened its organizational meeting by approving the agenda with an amendment and then conducted nominations and voice votes to choose leadership for 2026.
Speaker 2 nominated a candidate identified in the transcript as "miss Bill Collins" for chair; after closing nominations the board approved the nomination by voice vote. The board similarly nominated and confirmed a vice chair by voice vote. The presiding officials then confirmed that regular board meetings will remain on the third Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m., generally at the general district court location, and kept the current rules of procedure and code of ethics in place.
Board members also went through committee and commission appointments. Supervisors confirmed primaries and alternates for planning commission representation, assigned members to the Commonwealth Regional Council and Piedmont Detention Center oversight, and designated representatives for social-service and local development boards. Several supervisors asked to trade assignments because of schedule conflicts; staff was instructed to reflect those changes in the board packet.
Members requested a standing project-status spreadsheet for county priority projects (animal shelter, radio work, river-street work and others) that will appear in future board packages so the public and supervisors can track progress and funding. The chair said the board will include Pickett Park property and incubator use on an upcoming work session agenda so stakeholders can be consulted.
The meeting ended with routine closing remarks and a motion to adjourn that the board approved by voice vote.
