Newberry County Council held its annual election of officers for the 2026 calendar year and re-elected Robert Shealy as chair and Cease as vice chair by show-of-hands vote, both reported as unanimous.
The council also adopted the consent agenda (work session minutes and meeting minutes, both dated Dec. 17, 2025) and approved the council committee meeting schedule and the FY2026–2027 budget calendar. Motions to adopt those items were seconded and recorded as unanimous.
Those procedural actions were taken early in the meeting and organized the council’s leadership and committee calendar for the coming year. Council members encouraged public attendance at meetings and reminded residents of upcoming community events such as the Martin Luther King Jr. parade and program.
