At its second read and adoption, the Timberlane Regional School District board approved revisions to the K–12 health curriculum and enacted a new policy governing the use of generative artificial intelligence in district instruction.
Administrators said most updates reflect recently approved standards; the middle-level health revisions add units addressing sexual-health education, tobacco and alcohol. Speaker Sandy explained parental-notification procedures and opt-out options, citing district policy IGE and a two-week notice requirement: “By law, we're required to give 2 weeks notice at a minimum, anytime that that content will be instructed.” Approved curricula will be posted publicly once board approval is complete.
The board also adopted policy EHAG on the use of generative AI, developed from a New Hampshire School Boards Association model with input from curriculum, assessment and an AI committee. The policy discussion included an example of assistive student use of AI to lower reading level for comprehension; one member noted positive uses for students needing reading support. Motions to adopt both the curriculum revisions and the EHAG policy passed unanimously.
