Board adopts resolution to move Precinct 57.1 voting location to Cane Creek Community Center

At its Jan. 6 meeting the Buncombe County Board of Elections adopted a resolution to change the voting location for Precinct 57.1 from Emmett's Grove Baptist Church to Cane Creek Community Center.
Speaker 13 explained the search for locations after the previous site elected not to host voting, described Cane Creek Community Center as roughly one mile outside the precinct and said the site should be familiar to most residents in the area. The presenter said he considered other local churches and centers and noted Cane Creek is on a main road and likely easier to access than the prior location.
Speaker 1 read a resolution referencing North Carolina general statute 163-128 as the county board's authority to establish or alter voting places, noting the county board's proposal is subject to approval by the State Board of Elections. The board moved, seconded and voted by voice to approve the resolution.
"So if I could ask for a motion to approve the resolution to move the precinct, thank you," Speaker 1 said; a second was recorded and the board answered 'aye' to adopt the change.
Staff said the change will be forwarded to the State Board for final approval and that staff will provide maps and public notice to assist voters in locating the new site.
