Summary
In board elections at the Jan. 13 meeting, Donna Lewis accepted nomination and was re-elected board president 3–2; Mike Sharkey was re-elected vice president 3–2. Process followed nominations and member statements prior to roll-call voting.
The Scottsdale Unified School District governing board held internal elections at the start of its Jan. 13 regular meeting and selected board officers for 2026.
Donna Lewis accepted nomination for a second term as board president and won the office in a roll-call vote recorded as 3 to 2. Amy Carney had been nominated as an alternative but did not receive the majority. "I appreciate the compliment and hope to continue that momentum and trajectory," Lewis said upon accepting the nomination.
For vice president, Board Member Matthew Patinsky nominated Mike Sharkey to continue as vice president; Sharkey accepted and was elected in a separate roll-call vote, also 3 to 2. Board counsel guided the board on procedure and the order of voting during the nominations process.
Why this matters: Officer selections affect meeting management, committee assignments and the board’s public leadership posture. Several members cited a desire for continuity as reason to keep the current officers in place as the district proceeds through complex multi-year topics (facilities repurposing, benefits procurement and boundary decisions).
What’s next: Officers will preside over upcoming special meetings (Jan. 20) and hearings tied to closures and boundary decisions.
