The Anchorage Assessor’s Office will mail evaluation notices the week of Jan. 9 and set the formal appeal deadline for Feb. 11, Assessor Jackie Davis told the assembly. Davis urged property owners to seek early, informal resolution—often quicker and sufficient—before filing a formal appeal.
Davis described the appeals timeline and outreach tools: mailed evaluation notices, a 30‑day formal review window, an appeal hotline (stated in the session as “336500” with menu prompts), in‑person assistance at City Hall and materials on the assessor’s website. The office aims to respond to inquiries within two working days and will resume automated phone reminders to reduce no‑shows at Board of Equalization hearings.
Board of Equalization hearings are expected to begin in late March or early April and conclude by early June. Davis said last year’s caseload included about 455 appeals, and roughly 85% of those were withdrawn after informal resolution or resulted in reduced values prior to formal hearings. The assessor noted a recent uptick in no‑shows and said automated calls set for one day prior to hearings are being implemented to address that issue.
Davis encouraged early contact for any questions on mailed notices, and staff identified the appeals hotline and City Hall as the most efficient routes for initial inquiries.
