The Grayson County Board of Supervisors confirmed multiple appointments and alternates to local and regional boards during its first regular meeting of the year, focusing on economic development, solid-waste representation, EMS, and regional planning panels.
Supervisors nominated and approved Mike Watson as an alternate representative to the Blue Ridge/Reseda regional partnership and named Nikki Edwards to several staff/alternate roles. The board also appointed supervisors and staff to the Carol Grayson solid-waste arrangement, a CLIA workforce development seat, Mount Rogers economic and planning boards, and the county’s wireless authority.
County staff briefed the board on the roles and time commitments of those bodies. For example, Mount Rogers Planning District Commission (MRPDC) will administer a federal debris-cleanup and creek-restoration grant of roughly $4.5 million that covers 28 sites; staff said MRPDC will manage contracting and administrative work regionally. The board agreed that minutes from external boards will be circulated in monthly packets to keep supervisors informed.
Supervisors also appointed Dan Boyer as the county’s representative to the Twin County Airport Commission after discussion about the commission’s obligations and whether applicants live in the county. The board approved appointments and alternates by motion and voice vote throughout the meeting.
No substantive controversies were recorded on the appointments beyond standard questions about time commitment and representation; staff said they will circulate approved minutes and provide periodic briefing items for significant actions.
