The Grayson County Board of Supervisors voted to adopt a resolution to add a memorial name to an Elk Creek bridge in honor of Master Corrections Officer Jeremy Lewis Hall.
County staff told the board that VDOT has approved placing a second name on the bridge and that staff "reached out to the family" and "we just got an email back from the family today, said they would love that," according to the meeting record. Staff said the county would pay for the sign; the cost was estimated in the meeting at roughly $1,000–$1,500.
The resolution was presented as new business during the board's first regular meeting of the year. The chair asked whether the reading of the resolution could be waived so the county could later make a formal presentation to Hall’s family; the board agreed to waive the reading and moved to adopt the resolution. The board took a roll-call-style approval and approved the resolution.
County staff said they will obtain the necessary recommendation letters and follow the administrative process for the state office that oversees naming, then invite the family for a formal presentation and photo opportunity after the signs are installed.
The board took no additional action on bridge funding beyond approving the resolution; staff said final purchasing and sign-installation arrangements will be handled through county accounts and will be presented to the board if any cost-share or additional appropriation is needed.
