Sarah Kaka, a sophomore at Edina High School, presented the board with a recap of a two‑week trip to Aurangabad, India, where she taught English and music to elementary and middle‑school students at Stepping Stone School.

Kaka said she taught English through poetry and used recorders donated by a former Normandale music teacher to teach eighth‑grade students basic notes and songs. "I taught English through poetry," she said, and later described a closing ceremony where students presented what they had learned and gave her cards and poems to show gratitude.

Board members praised Kaka’s teaching and asked about sustained contact with the students; Kaka said she has exchanged phone numbers with some students and staff and hopes to return. Directors encouraged her and thanked her for representing the district.
