At its Jan. 12 organizational meeting the West Lafayette board completed officer elections, reaffirmed several corporate appointments and bonded limits, and authorized architect agreements to begin design work on two high‑school roofing projects.
The board conducted nominations and roll‑call-style voting for president, vice president and secretary; officers were selected according to the procedure explained by the chair. The board voted to appoint Michelle Kronk as corporation treasurer and to reaffirm bonded position insurance limits (treasurer and deputy treasurer bonds at $100,000; ECAs and athletic secretary at $25,000). The board also affirmed school physicians Dr. Chester Ho and Dr. Ann Marie Biancooley and reappointed the law firm Church, Church, Hittle & Antrim as school counsel.
CFO Kronk presented the recommendation to combine and accelerate two roofing projects at West Lafayette Junior‑Senior High School because construction costs are rising and there are sufficient geo bond funds. The two sections together were estimated at roughly $632,100 and $603,750 in total projected construction cost; the corresponding architect/technical services agreements are approximately $79,000 and $75,470. Board members discussed timing and construction impacts, and approved the architect agreements so technical/design work can begin.
The board also approved continuing the preschool program beyond its two‑year pilot after being told it has operated at capacity and leveraged voucher funding; administrators said the program is intended to be self‑sustaining and that expansion and pay adjustments would be considered in future years.
Board chair noted the district chose not to increase board compensation following recent state authorization, a political choice made "in solidarity with our teachers." Several votes were recorded as unanimous.
