The official said the proposed one-year extension is intended to allow continuity while the EDA and DMI work to set performance expectations.
Derek Lapointe, who spoke after board members paid tribute, reflected on his time with downtown work and pointed to accomplishments he attributed to the community and investor partners. "We set a 500 and, 500 units in 5 years goal. We accomplished that," Lapointe said, describing housing and redevelopment progress downtown. He also highlighted redevelopment activity at the former mall site and investor involvement in several projects.
Commissioner White and other board members offered personal thanks for Lapointe's work and emphasized a desire for continuity as the EDA transitions to new leadership at Downtown Moorhead Inc. No formal action was taken at the meeting on the contract extension; the board said formal resolutions and related documents will appear on the EDA agenda next month for consideration.
