Several residents addressed the commission during public comment about the proposed rezoning of the southwest corner of Broomfield and Crawford Roads.
Frances Lickman urged the commission to follow the consultant's recommendation to reach an internal consensus on rezoning before forwarding it to the planning commission, to ensure single-family housing is preserved in parts of the parcel, and to defer rezoning decisions for a 12.5-acre parcel that may fall outside the PRD agreement. Lickman said that the consultant's traffic study indicated a commercial development of that size would require widening Broomfield Road and adding lanes on Crawford Road.
Another speaker, Margin Oates Stein, said she opposed awarding roughly 30 acres to a tax-exempt private school, saying the city's scarce buildable land is better used for taxable housing and that the PRD historically was intended for homes. Both speakers recommended the commission either reach consensus about rezoning and then send the recommendation to the planning commission or set aside parts of the parcel for further review.
Commissioners listened but did not take a final vote on rezoning at the January meeting; the public comments were entered into the record for future planning sessions.
