Council assigns committees, selects mayor pro tem and names airport representative

The Goldendale City Council completed routine organizational business at its first meeting of the year, setting standing-committee memberships, designating a mayor pro tem and naming a representative to the airport advisory group.
Council staff described the four standing committees (finance, ordinance, public works and events) and reminded members that no councilor may serve on more than two standing committees. Council members announced first and second preferences. After several swaps to balance expertise and committee sizes, the mayor announced final committee assignments for each member.
Council nominated Danielle to serve as mayor pro tem; the nomination was seconded and approved by voice vote with one council member recording an abstention. For the Airport Advisory Committee, the council moved and seconded to appoint Nathaniel Hill as the council’s representative, discussing perceived conflicts of interest and clarifying that the council representative on the advisory board does not vote on airport matters but only reports back to the council.
