On biodiesel and electric vehicle work, the commission said it is coordinating with Drive Clean Indiana and local officials. The chair noted Councilman at‑large Don Presbylinski had offered to support efforts to transition city diesel use in coordination with Drive Clean Indiana and that Drive Clean grants to support police EV procurement are being explored.
Members reported the Recycle Smart project team is finalizing application edits for a $3,000 community activation grant made possible through the mayor's charitable gala; the team requested a short extension because a volunteer graphic artist is temporarily abroad and expected to return before deadlines. The commission agreed a member would submit the application promptly.
The commission also reviewed Solar United Neighbors resources and an upcoming Renewable Energy Day at the Indiana Statehouse (Jan. 20) with free registration and a bus from Maryville; members encouraged interested commissioners to register and offered help coordinating meetings with local legislators while in Indianapolis.
Separately, a commissioner reported meeting with Missy Shaper to complete the Indiana Department of Environmental Management Clean Community Program application; the applicant starts at a bronze level and can reach silver as completed projects are credited. The commission discussed whether to designate itself as the program's clean team or to appoint a separate lead contact.
Next steps: follow up with Drive Clean Indiana about grant opportunities, submit the Recycle Smart grant application, circulate Solar United Neighbors registration materials and finalize the Clean Community Program application for mayoral signature.
