The Madison County Board of Education on Jan. 8 received the districts 2025 audit, approved final HVAC/geothermal plans for Whitehall Elementary School, authorized two purchase orders for a renovation of a former Madison Middle cafeteria/IT building, created one Title I-funded teacher position at Madison Middle, and approved an athletic-training services contract for the high schools.
Auditor Tammy Patrick of Patrick and Associates presented the 2025 audit and said the district would receive an unmodified (clean) opinion. She explained a GASB accounting standard change related to compensated absences required a restatement; that implementation increased certain liabilities but did not reflect wrongdoing. The auditor reported an approximate $500,000 decrease in fund balances tied to completion of construction projects and said the general fund ended the year near $51,000,000 with roughly $12,000,000 available for operations.
On construction and procurement, the board approved final plans for geothermal and HVAC renovation at Whitehall Elementary. It also approved a $34,000 purchase order to Air Equipment Company for HVAC equipment and a $47,198.60 purchase order to Limitless Mechanical for installation labor related to the renovation of the former Madison Middle cafeteria/IT building (the district will relocate the day treatment/alternative students there). Board members noted some in-house labor will reduce overall costs by an estimated $100,000.
The board voted to create and ratify one full-time teacher position at Madison Middle to be paid through Title I funds.
Finally, the board approved an athletic training agreement with OSPTKY LLC (Orthopedic and Sport Physical Therapy) to provide athletic training services at Madison Central and Madison Southern; the contract was described as a flat fee arrangement. The board completed these action items after public program presentations; no litigation or contested motions were recorded during these votes.
