Engineering reported to the committee on Jan. 8 that the Office of Commissioner of Railroads has reviewed safety concerns at the 17th Avenue railroad crossing but has not issued a decision and is "continuing to monitor" the site.
"They did say they have looked at the safety concerns. They do not have a decision yet and they're continuing to monitor," Alan said. A committee member expressed frustration with the response, describing the emailed reply as "generic" and saying it gave the impression the commission was not interested. The member asked staff to seek a timeframe for a decision; Alan said he would ask and, if there is a timeframe, bring an update at the next meeting.
The chair also provided a separate update: a crosswalk the committee approved last summer is now in the budget and is expected to be installed next year.
The committee took no formal action on the railroad crossing at this meeting; staff said they will follow up with the Office of Commissioner of Railroads and report back.
