Martin County: MLK events, State of the County, water chlorination and community programs this month

Martin Luther King Jr.: The hosts said the county issued a proclamation honoring Martin Luther King Jr., with events running Jan. 15–19. State of the County: The State of the County address is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 16, at 9 a.m. at Palm City New Hope. Attendees must RSVP to Dana Stonebreaker, the hosts said; the speech will review county highlights and initiatives from 2025.
Water chlorination: The hosts reminded listeners of semi-annual, temporary changes in the water chlorination method that may produce a slight chlorine taste or smell through Jan. 18. They said the change involves Martin County Utilities, the City of Stewart, and South Martin Regional Utility and is intended to ensure water safety.
Community events and programs: Movie night at Indian Riverside Park is set for Jan. 30 (food trucks at 5:30 p.m.; movie at 6:30 p.m.). A kickball night for residents ages 11–18 who live in or attend school in Martin County is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 16, from 5:30–7:30 p.m. at Langford Park (registration required). Martin Cares, a five-week civic engagement program, starts next week; the first session is full, registration for a second session opens Jan. 12, and the second session runs in March–April with 50 participant slots.
