St. Mary's County Animal Control Advisory Board approves 2025 annual report and completes officer elections

At the Jan. 7 meeting of the St. Mary's County Animal Control Advisory Board, members completed organizational business including officer nominations and approval of the board's 2025 annual report to the county commissioners.
Chair Steve Tuttle nominated Rebecca Ironmonger to continue as secretary; members voted by raised hands and the nomination carried. Tuttle also nominated Doug Sulu for chair; that nomination received a second and the board approved the change in leadership. Members then agreed that Tuttle would serve as vice chair for his final term to assist with transition.
The board reviewed the draft annual report prepared for the St. Mary's County Commissioners. Members noted that the report described the board as having "come into existence in 2019" and referenced assisting with a "five-year strategic plan." Board members agreed the "five-year" phrasing was out of date and instructed staff to remove the specific five-year language. A motion to approve the 2025 annual report with that correction was moved, seconded and approved.
Board members offered thanks to volunteers, shelter staff and community partners. Chair Tuttle said March will be his final meeting as chair and the board expressed appreciation for his service.
Next steps: the corrected annual report will be finalized for transmission to the St. Mary's County Commissioners; leadership transition plans will proceed ahead of the chair's final meeting in March.
