At the Jan. 7 meeting the Michigan City Tree Board confirmed receipt of a $3,000 deposit into its donation fund, described in the meeting as coming from the mayor’s community activation grant. The treasurer presented the controller’s report and the board approved the treasurer’s report and claims by voice vote.
Nut graf: Members discussed upcoming outreach and training: a statewide Tree City forum (Mar. 11 in Terre Haute), a virtual tree‑planting workshop on Feb. 12, and a mayor‑hosted boards and commissions training (Jan. 14, 5–7 p.m., City Hall). The board agreed to circulate materials for newer members and to consider flyer distribution for Earth Day outreach rather than staffing an out‑of‑county event.
The board also handled governance: members reviewed municipal language about board composition and the role of the council liaison, noted that Dr. Cora has indicated he does not seek reappointment as liaison, and re‑elected officers (president, vice president, secretary) by voice vote. The board set its next meeting for Feb. 4, 2026 at 5:30 p.m.
Members asked to invite Public Works Director Wendy Vache or a representative to the next meeting for an update on the proposed tree ordinance. They also asked staff to coordinate outreach materials (flyers listing giveaway species) for Earth Day and to share training information with new members.
The board approved meeting adjournment at the close of the session.
