Pottstown wins grants for Ricketts upgrades, lead line work and park repaving

Pottstown officials said the borough will use a series of grants to upgrade community facilities and accelerate infrastructure work. Manager Justin reported the borough secured a $350,000 Local Share Account (LSA) grant to fund improvements at the Ricketts Community Center and received $250,000 to continue lead service line replacement work within the borough.
The Ricketts funding will be used to relocate an electrical transformer that has caused drainage problems, replace the gym floor and make restroom accessibility upgrades, Justin said. The borough plans to seek companion funds before beginning construction.
Justin told council the authority has investigated more than 1,000 locations and replaced approximately 550 lead service lines to date, and the new award will allow that replacement effort to continue.
Separately, the Pottstown Regional Community Foundation awarded $10,000 to repave Pollock Park in preparation for a soccer mini‑pitch scheduled for construction in spring; that project was previously supported by a U.S. Soccer/FIFA World Cup 26 grant aimed at youth soccer in the region.
Justin also said the borough submitted a pre‑application to PennDOT’s Greenlight Go program on Jan. 3 to replace APS push‑button heads at 27 borough locations and two signal boxes on Route 100. The pre‑application estimated a request of about $400,000 with a $100,000 borough match; staff will return to council to request authorization before filing a full application if invited.
The manager listed additional awards in the packet: roughly $100,000 toward replacing a fire truck for Goodwill that was damaged by an electrical fire and $113,000 from Upper Pottsgrove for emergency power load backups.
Officials said they will pursue matching or companion funds where possible and schedule follow‑up presentations and authorizations with council once grant processes advance.
