The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District board began its Jan. 12 meeting by recognizing student and staff achievements. Middleton High School's one-act production of "12 Angry Jurors" earned an All-State award at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Theater Festival at UW-Stevens Point; the board thanked directors, cast and crew and singled out directing and acting awards for guest director Marielle Shiring and students Julian Harris and Colin Buckley.

The board also honored Dr. Irene Resemley for receiving the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) middle-level teacher of the year award. Superintendent Dana Menogue said Resemley has nearly two decades of service and has been especially notable for her work in Holocaust education, including study and teaching in the United States, Germany and Poland. Menogue noted Resemley received the national award at the NCSS conference in Washington, D.C., in December.

Board members presented certificates and congratulated students, directors and staff for the district's representation at state and national levels. The recognitions were presented before the business portion of the meeting began; no formal board action accompanied these items.
