Chief Pappas described the incident: officers responded to a fully submerged vehicle with three subjects struggling in 12-foot-deep, near‑freezing water. According to the chief, officers conducted life-saving operations from the pond's east side and, with assistance from other officers and Glenside Fire Department personnel, removed the three people; the chief said they did not sustain serious injuries.
The village presented the chief's award of valor and lifesaving awards along with pins; family members were invited to place the pins on the recipients' uniforms. Mayor Giannelli praised the officers, saying their "bravery is humbling and your selflessness is inspiring," and thanked the officers and their families for their service to the community.
The board held a brief photo recognition and the awards presentation concluded with appreciation from board members and staff.
