Later the council addressed community petitions seeking an honorary street name for Begum Khaleda; the council voted to approve naming Carpenter Street in her honor after proponents presented a petition and said the organizers had collected signatures.
Council members debated whether to consider additional, last-minute naming proposals at the same meeting and discussed the need to prioritize residents who live and work in Hamtramck. Some residents and council members urged that street namings be coordinated so the community and affected residents can comment and so multiple proposed namings are not considered in isolation.
A separate nomination to honor Saleh (Salah) Al Jahim with a Miller Street designation was discussed; council debated the stretch of road under consideration and whether renaming authority and public notice were adequate. That item was later withdrawn or deferred for further review.
