Cumberland County commissioners approved a $705,000 capital request to replace and standardize technology in courtrooms and hearing rooms across the county courthouse and the Dennis Marion building.
Adam, speaking for court administration and IMTO, said Phase 1 would include Courtrooms 1, 2 and 3 and the Dependency Hearing Room, with later phases covering additional courtrooms and the Divorce and 5th Floor Hearing Rooms. The request covers hardware, software, labor, project management and an 8% contingency. Staff described a life-cycle approach (5, 7 and 10 years) to stagger replacements and avoid having a single "shiny" room while others fall behind.
Commissioners asked about responsiveness if equipment fails during court operations; staff said courts can submit tickets or call IMTO directly and that staff respond immediately. The board approved the capital request and asked that the project be elevated to commissioner attention if outcomes do not address existing courtroom issues.
Staff said some replacements were deferred in prior years and that having a planned life-cycle replacement program would reduce long-term overhead and training burdens for court personnel.
