The Lake Placid Town Council on Jan. 12 voted to advance a privately funded outdoor exercise circuit at the central park after hearing from Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce representative Bill Brantley.
Brantley told the council the nine-station circuit would be installed inside the existing sidewalk perimeter and built on concrete pads similar to sidewalks: "They would be concrete, approximately 6 foot by 8 foot... The only tall one would be the one where they do pull ups." He said Keep Lake Placid Beautiful and AdventHealth would sponsor the project and that the town would not pay for installation or routine maintenance.
Councilmember questions focused on liability and insurance. Police and town staff said the equipment would be reviewed by the town’s insurance underwriter; councilmembers asked the town administrator to verify coverage and confirm whether the addition would affect premiums. "I would encourage the town administrator to submit that very question to our insurance underwriter with the plans Billy submits," one councilmember said.
After questions and assurances, the council moved and passed a motion authorizing the town administrator to work with the Chamber director on a detailed placement and maintenance plan and to bring a finalized proposal back to council for approval.
Next steps: staff will review plans with the town’s insurance provider, complete the placement plan, and return a final proposal for council approval.
