Students from Garden City High's FFA chapter gave a student‑led presentation to the board that highlighted leadership development, competitions and community service.
Chapter president Jocelyn Maine said the chapter has "about 20 active members" and described officer activities including an out‑of‑district officer retreat focused on parliamentary procedure and leadership. Students reported competitive results — the dairy judging team placed in the top five as a team and a senior milk‑quality team is “headed to state” — and recounted participatory activities like land judging, entomology, horse judging and the Kansas State Fair livestock shows.
Students emphasized FFA's recruitment and leadership aspects, including a back‑to‑school barbecue, Barnyard Olympics, alumni night and chapter lock‑ins that aim to integrate new members. Adviser Kate Anderson described the chapter as "very student‑led" and praised the students for representing their program.
Board members congratulated the students and noted the educational value of FFA for public‑speaking, leadership and workforce readiness. The board thanked the chapter for its presentation and recognized the chapter's community contributions.
Next steps: The board accepted the presentation; students received certificates and the board took a group photo as part of School Board Recognition Month.
