The Village of Ballston Spa Board of Trustees used its Jan. 1 organizational meeting to approve a broad consent agenda covering personnel reappointments, board and committee assignments, procedural rules, and multiple payments.
The board reappointed Rebecca Little as village clerk for the remainder of the term (ending no earlier than Dec. 31, 2027), reappointed a deputy treasurer, designated the village clerk as records management officer, and approved the reappointment of multiple part‑time police officers and crossing guards. The board also reappointed members and chairs across planning and zoning bodies, the committee on harassment and discrimination prevention, the park and tree board, police procedures committee, library board and committee on the arts.
Other measures the board approved included:
- Authorizing attendance at specified training and conferences for municipal officers and staff. - A resolution to reimburse officers and employees at the current IRS mileage rate. - Designating several banks as official depositories and naming The Daily Gazette as the official village newspaper. - Payments and personnel payouts: $49,000 to Neoplanta Restoration Inc. for previously approved asbestos removal at the Ballston Spa Public Library; acceptance of the resignation of full‑time police officer Edward Braine with subsequent approvals to payout 80 hours of comp time and scheduling for additional comp‑time payouts; payout of 2.5 hours of comp time to former village clerk Terry O'Connor; and payment of $8,536.89 to the New York State Volunteer Firefighter Cancer Benefit Program to avoid potential cancellation.
The board also declared a 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe used by the fire department surplus and approved its sale to a private buyer for $45,000 with a $500 broker's fee.
All consent items and motions were moved, seconded and carried as recorded on the meeting record.
The board discussed staffing logistics tied to the clerk's expanded responsibilities and indicated plans to create a part‑time deputy clerk job description to assist Rebecca Little, whose new combined salary was set elsewhere on the agenda.
