Environmental subcommittee sends draft Volusia Forever charter language to legal, plans January meeting

Pat Northey, chair of the commission's Environmental and Conservation Subcommittee, told the commission the subcommittee had produced a draft of possible ballot language to add Volusia Forever to the county charter and had sent that draft to legal staff for review.
"We had a draft of a form to put in, and we reviewed that," Northey said, summarizing the subcommittee's work. She said the subcommittee reached consensus to use the current draft as a starting point and will examine modifications at the next subcommittee meeting on Jan. 28 at 10:00 a.m. in the TCK Admin Center meeting room; the subcommittee expects to return a recommended draft to the full commission for the February meeting.
Northey asked the commission to consider scheduling a short presentation from program staff so commissioners understand how the existing Volusia Forever program operates before taking final ballot language positions. No final charter language or ballot decision was made at the meeting; the item will return to committee and then to the full commission for possible action.
