During the meeting’s public-comment period, Chris Rickard, a Chesapeake parent, told the board he cannot access his fifth-grade child’s test content in MasteryConnect despite seeing scores. Rickard said that the principal and a tutor (a Chesapeake teacher he hired) also could not access the test details and asked the board to help resolve how parents can see the actual test items and where the student is struggling.
"I can see the score. They get 6 out of 10, 7 out of 10, 8 out of 10, but how do I see the test?" Rickard said. He asked the board to investigate and offered his contact information for follow up.
Board staff thanked him for sharing the concern and said the practice at public comment is typically to receive information rather than engage in dialogue during the meeting; staff committed to evaluating the concern and providing a response if appropriate.
The board did not take immediate action on the matter during the meeting; the superintendent’s staff was identified as the follow-up point.
