Kim Scott was unanimously elected chair of the Chesapeake School Board during the board’s annual reorganization meeting. The board also elected Mike Lemonia as vice chair; both officers will serve in their roles through December 2026.
The board followed the superintendent’s described process for nominations and show-of-hands votes. After nominations closed with no additional candidates, the board approved the slate by voice and show-of-hands votes.
The board additionally approved appointments for administrative officers. The motion to appoint Doctor Angela Smith as clerk, Darlene Gorman as deputy clerk, Doctor Jared Cotton as fiscal agent, and Melissa Glott as deputy fiscal agent was moved, seconded and approved by the board.
All recorded procedural motions during the reorganization — including adoption of the agenda, motions to enter and certify a closed session, and the listed appointments — were approved with all board members present voting in favor. The board did not take other substantive policy votes during the reorganization portion of the meeting.
The newly elected chair, Kim Scott, thanked outgoing chair Angie Swigert and said she looked forward to collaborating with members, staff and the community in the year ahead. The superintendent presided over the process and turned the meeting over to the new chair following the elections.
