Sheriff reports drug seizures, rising caseloads and flags potential need for more jail capacity

Wilson County's sheriff delivered a year‑end report to the commission highlighting public‑safety activity, prosecutions and corrections figures for the reporting period.

The sheriff said the year‑end total included 6,518 reportable calls and 16,670 non‑reportable calls for 24,188 total, and enumerated several enforcement figures including 2,218 traffic stops, multiple arrest counts, and a series of drug seizures. The sheriff reported substantial seizures of methamphetamine (reported as 1,778 grams) and quantities of other substances. He said total warrants issued numbered 6,098 and provided juvenile and probation statistics broken down by local courts.

On detention operations, the sheriff said the average daily jail population over the last 12 months has been roughly 112–115 inmates per day, with recent months reaching averages near 130. "We probably need to start looking at, increasing capacity in the jail," he said, noting that some inmates are housed out of county and that transfers and federal housing produce revenue offsets.
